The good Captain need not worry about spelling and grammar in these,
what may be termed as extemporaneous writings that we indulge in this
medium. Many a time I have looked at something I posted, and wondered
why I didn't catch an error before hitting the send button. The hand
being quicker than the keyboard, it results in dyslexic typing at times,
and there are times when I notice a typo a few lines above, and let it
go, for time and laziness considerations. There are times when I end
the whole thing with a caveat, that I am a better writer than what the
stuff indicates!
One thing that has bothered me over the years, is the mix up in the
use of "lose" and "loose". I have noticed this error in the writings
of many people. Many a time I wanted to point it out, either in a group
post, or an individual mail, but better sense prevailed, and I didn't.
Please don't use "lose" loosely. You may either make the meaning loose,
or lose it altogether. If you use "loose" instead of "lose", you lose.
(teliyaka aDugutAnu, "lose" lUz ela ayyindi? Is there another word that
gives a "oo" sound to a single "o"?)
