1) Choose 4-5 volunteers from Telusa for cross-posting (read
NOT autoposting) to SCIT.
2) These moderators will then take up the task of posting
telusa articles to SCIT. I'd prefer that the articles
be posted individually, and NOT collectively in a digest
form. This will help maintain a certain 'direction' to
the follow-ups (if any) to that particular topic.
3) Keeping in mind that some people *may not* want their
articles cross-posted, we can probably ask these writers
to explicitly mention this every time they post something
on telusa (just a single line will do!). Unless otherwise
specified, all telusa articles can then be cross posted
by the moderators/volunteers to SCIT.
4) I prefer individual posting even though it involves
more effort. But I've noticed that even on very high
traffic days, the max number of posts on telusaa is
about 25. And posting 25 articles to a newsgroup shouldn't
take more than 30 mins.
5) SCIT.moderated is not exactly a very feasible solution
for the sheer amount of effort involved in moderating !!
It is much much easier to find volunteers to do the
crossposting of articles from telusaa to SCIT than to
find moderators for SCIT.moderated itself.
6) All we need is a group of 5-6 (more the merrier!) people
who are willing to dedicate 30-60 mins of their day to
this noble cause: or to use aravinda's words "to nurture
a sick baby'.
SCIT is dear to me. Face it, many of us got to know each other
through that very medium: SCIT. There is no harm in trying
to put some life back into it. We sure don't know whether
we'll succeed or not. But we can atleast give it a try. I'd
rather prefer a failure-after-giving-it-200% than
never-trying-b'cos-i-know-it-won't-succeed.
Let me practice what i'm preaching and volunteer myself for
this job of crossposting. I'm also willing to collect the
names of people who volunteer for this job and coordinate
any efforts in this direction. I'm still not clear about
*how* the actual posting should be done (i mean does it go
from the moderators' account or...?). Maybe Ratnakar or
Ramakrishna Pillalamarri gaaru can help in this matter.
C'mon folks, let's give it a try. If it doesn't work, we
can always recoil into our cosy shell named telusaa.
