A LITERARY FEAST AS AN UNIQUE FEAT
~ ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~ ~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~~
The traditional Indian culture preserved and propagated VEDAS only
through "SRUTI" (in its purest sound form). The belief of Hindus
is that this world emanated from pure 'OMKARA' sound only. Out of
all the bodily senses hearing has an indelible impact on the mind
and intelligence.
The Sruti is put into a literary skill known as AVADHANAM. Here the
AVADHANI through his high memorising capacity stores in his memory
Ashtadasa Puranas, Kavyas and Grammer of the language in all its
perspectives. To the difficult questions of pruccakas, he composes
the verses to a given rhythm and rule. But not the total verse at
a time. This is after answering partly the other person also. In
ANDHRA for the past 500 years ASTAVADHANAM (with 8 persons) is a
grand feat, performed by many.
Now, Dr. Medasani Mohan garu is answering 1008 persons (pruccakas)
continuously for 16 days, at the feet of Lord Venkateswara at Tirupati
upto 20th January 1996.
-----------
It is a great pleasure to see so many "avadhanis", starwarts in telugu
sahityam and people who are interested in telugu sahityam gathered to
test the knowledge and dharana power of our Avadhanigaru.
There is Sri Bulusu Venkata Rama Murty garu, who has done more than
2000 astavadhanas, (I don't know whether his name is in the world records
book) participated and asked a samasya.
I have noted down all dattapadis and samasyas asked by pruccakas. If you
are all interested I shall type and post them on TELUSA.
Today Sri Medasani Mohan garu must be attempting to finish the second line of
the dattapadi.
The first day went on dattapadi. Sri Vishwanadha Pavani Sastrygaru was
one of the pruccakas. He asked for a poem - the dattapadis are
"rAma rAma rAma rAma".
Sri Yatirajugaru is the "aprastuta prasaMgi". He is the one who
can do justice to the "aprastuta prasaMgi". Personally, this is
the aMsaMu that I like in the avadhana. An "aprastuta prasaMgi"
must have through knowledge in sahityamu, then only he can ask good
questions and give a sahiti feast to the audience. He asked a question
and by the avadhani's answer I came to know about "Sri Gadepalli
Vera Raghava Sastrygaru".
=========================================
1) The first dattapadi asked :
"kaTnamu rATnamu vaTnamu paTnamu" - ee dattapadulatO kanakadurga stuti
Sri Mohangaru Started by saying :
"kaTnamu lEkanE SivuDu gaikoninADu gadamma durganin"
(Sri Mohangaru will finish telling this poem by 17th of this month
try if you can find out the whole poem before that :-))
2) A funny dattapadi :
"cAru koora kAraM caTni" - vEMkaTESvarunipai stotram
Sri Mohangaru :
"cAru proudha manOjna hAsa caturA sarvESvarA bhAvanAM"
3) English dattapadi :
"junction connection collection correction" - ahalyA SApavimOcanaM
