One of my passions is to see human population reduced. But it always
seems to be growing and growing (not only in countries like India
and China, but also in the USA; I have seen a recent census report
which says that US population growth percentage is perhaps higher
than India's). This has put nature on her deathbed, but the inexorable
growth in human population continues faster than Ja-ga-nna-dha's
ra-dha-cha-kra-lu down a slope. In this respect I appeal for help from
saa-hi-tyam lovers to write saa-hi-tyam that encourages people to have less
children.
I thought I will take my appeal directly to The Lord him(or her)self. So, I
have started revising the familiar chant from Rgveda as follws:
a-sa-to maa sa-dga-ma-ya
ta-ma-so maa jyo-ti-rga-ma-ya
mru-tyo maa-mru-tam ga-ma-ya
a-dhi-ka san-ta-nah maa mi-ta san-ta-nah ga-ma-ya!
I would appreciate suggestions for a better (or more appropriate) 4th line.
Similar pa-dyams, stories in Telugu (and why not English), bringing out the
inappropriateness (or even immorality) of having too many children these
days would be very welcome.
My belief is that saa-hi-tyam should reflect the needs of the time. The
greatest need of today is to reduce the human population. That's why I have
gone out on a limb to raise this topic. And my sincere apologies to anyone
who thinks this issue is inappropriate for discussion in this forum.
