  I remember Sri Madugula Nagaphani Sarma composing Sanskrit Padyam in
  champakamaala in the Satavadhaanam conducted in New Jersey. Also I remember 
  he mentioning that the poem he composed also adheres to yati requirements, 
  even though Sanskrit poems in that meter do not usually have them, in general.
  I will try to dig my notes to see if I can find it, and since many of our 
  nettors also attended it, can throw more light on it..
